Hurdy Gurdies

The construction of most of these Hurdy Gurdies follows what Peter Streng has developed. The body's top and back plate are carved from solid wood as it is the rule with classical bowed instruments. Peter designed a dynamic wheel function which allows playing in 'fully dynamic' style. The wheel-carrying construction is neither in touch with the top plate nor with the back plate. Hence, the gurdy's sound is quite voluminous and reminds of that of a viola or cello. The dynamic wheel function can be locked so that the instrument can be handled like a conventional Hurdy Gurdy construction, if that is what is wanted.

Please note that whatever instrument you find on this website describes prototypes as we are continuously implementing new ideas.
